Egyptian Pharaoh and Queen
The inspiration behind the creation of this artwork, is purely my extreme fascination for the Egyptian culture and the mysteries that lie undiscovered till date This is a multi-panel artwork consisting of four panel, (a quadriptych or a tetraptych). Each panel is of height 24" by width 12". A total of 4 such panels make up this artwork. Egypt is one place that has always fascinated me over the years. I find the Egyptian culture extremely interesting and mysterious too. There is so much to learn about it. This bought me to doing this artwork.
The first panel of Tutankhamun the Boy King shows his funeral coffin. There are three coffins one inside the other just like Russian dolls. The mummy is placed in the third coffin, The one here shows the innermost (Third) coffin. It was made of pure gold and decorated with the most magnificent stones.
The second panel shows Queen Cleopatra who ruled over Egypt 4th century BC. She was born in Egypt, but her family origin was traced to Macedonian Greece. The ceremonial headdress was worn by the queen during important function, it was entirely made of gold.
The third panel shows the bust of Nefer Neferuaten Nefertiti who was the chief royal wife of Akhenaten. She lived in the 18th dynasty sometime between 1394BC and 1340BC She was a very strong woman. This bust of Nefertiti was discovered on December 6, 1912. A team of archeologists uncovered the sculpture among the ruins of the workshop of Thutmose. The bust is a 14th-century artifact and is thought to be approximately 3,300 years old. It was first presented for public display in Berlin in 1923.
The fourth panel show the statue of Ramseys the second. He was a good ruler and had many wives out of which Nefertari was his most beloved. He was extremely saddened by her early death.
Just by looking at this artwork one can get a feel of the grandeur and pomp of that era. It was a very different and interesting time. One of power, fame, authority and monarchy but at the same time, shrouded in mystery of the unknown.
All these four Egyptians Pharaohs and Queens come from a time almost 4500 years ago, when the world was a very different place to live in. For all those history lovers out there, this is a tribute to that time of regal grandeur. A noteworthy fact about this artwork is that, at the time of completion of each of these panels, I had a tiny visitor (A hummingbird) come visit at my patio door. As if the souls of these people had come to say a little Thank you for painting and remembering them.
